W2 (ver.4.1) - calculate sectional properties
In the mechanical design, sectional properties, such as centroid, moment of inertia and strength modulus are necessary for calculating stresses, deflections, and buckling. Formulas for common cross sections can be found in most mechanical design reference books. But when shapes are complex, more advanced methods are required to determine the necessary values.
W2 is a program that calculate sectional properties for any cross section, written in AutoLISP.
Compatibility: AutoCAD 2000 ... 2010.
Loading W2
Load the application using the pull-down menu: Tools -> Load Application - select the file w2.vlx.
At the Command prompt, you can load the application using the AutoLISP
function load:
Command: (load "w2")
The file w2.vlx must be in the AutoCAD support file search path.
Using W2
After loading, the following new commands will be added to AutoCAD:
- set_w2 - set the precision of calculus
- w0 - select the section using the AutoCAD command "select"
- w1 - select the section using the AutoCAD command "bhatch" - recommended
- w - calculate the sectional properties
What is new in the last version:
the centroid coordinates are calculated according to the current UCS
the selection of the contour can be continued by using again the command W1
the strength modulus is calculated also in the directions given by xmin and ymin distances
